External Lecturer – International Financial Management – DIS Copenhagen

Teach undergraduate students from North American universities who are spending a semester studying in Copenhagen, Denmark.

The International Financial Management course is designed to gain a practical understanding of foreign exchange markets, international monetary markets, and international capital markets in this course. We discuss the concepts of risk management, cash management, international debt and equity financing, market behavior, and relevant aspects of European monetary policy and its capital markets.

This course includes a three-day Study Tour to Gothenburg in early February and a six-day Study Tour to Amsterdam and The Hague in mid-March.

Tasks

• Prepare and facilitate teaching and classroom discussions, and lead experiential learning activities 
• Evaluate, grade, and provide feedback on students’ work throughout the semester
• Plan academic activities and facilitate a 3-day Study Tour in Gothenburg and a 6-day Study Tour in Amsterdam and The Hague 
• Evaluate, grade, and provide feedback on students’ work

Professional competencies and skills

• Master’s degree or MBA in Finance a requirement (PhD preferred)
• Professional experience working or teaching within the overall topic of the course
• Proficient in English language 
• Experience with teaching is preferred, but not required  
• Openness to pedagogical support from DIS  
• Ability to be legally employed in Denmark (this position does not come with a work visa).

Teaching requirements 

This is a part-time teaching position, so faculty are welcome to continue their full-time work while teaching. Salary is based on an AC Agreement. Faculty are expected to work approximately 10 hr/week at DIS with the following breakdown:  

• Teaching: The course is currently offered on Mondays and Thursdays from 8:30 – 9:50 at DIS Copenhagen
• Preparation and grading: 7 hours a week 
• Study tours: Set-up of academic visits and travel

Materials from the current syllabus are available (both readings and in-class teaching materials). There will be opportunity to sit in on the current semester’s course for preparation. It is possible to cover some course topics with guest lectures.  

Start date  

Semester runs from early January to mid-May. Training and onboarding are planned on an individual basis. There will also be an opportunity to continue teaching the same course in future semesters. 

Teaching at DIS

Students are typically in their third year of university. Courses are all taught in English. 

Pedagogical support, training, and mentorship is available at DIS through the Learning Lab and experienced faculty; faculty are encouraged to collaborate with academic support staff in various professional development opportunities.
